Planting and nurturing seeds of hope in Tulsa Our Club and Mentoring program is all about relationship. We believe that a child who has been harmed in the context of a relationship can only heal in the context of a relationship. These relationships are born at RFK Camp and are nurtured and strengthened through the mentoring process and monthly Club meetings.
There’s no magic bullet that brings about the healing that these kids need. It comes in the context of warm, loving, responsive relationships and every day acts of kindness. Whether a trip to the Dollar Store, to the ice cream shop, to the library, to the park – or whatever the pair enjoys doing together – the relationship is strengthened and seeds of hope are nurtured.
Once a month we gather for Club. That’s a place where 25 adults pour themselves into creating a place of safety and peace and joy for the 30 kids (and their mentors) that assemble there – and love it. Club is a place to belong – where the kids enjoy games, activities, Bible stories and camp songs. It’s a place where they get to follow Colorado Williams and Steve, his trusty toilet plunger, navigate life’s challenging choices and opportunities. The kids enjoy connecting with their Camp friends again. It’s a place for some to get to see siblings who live in different homes. The combination of mentoring and Club is a powerful force that we believe is used by God to facilitate healing and nurture hope in these precious children.
